Has new owners, all the money's going to the Web site, and Cal's editor Cameron (Helen Mirren) is trying to keep the paper afloat by any means necessary.

In the updated Gary Condit-meets-Blackwater story, Cal's old roommate (Ben Affleck) is a Gulf War hero leading a Congressional committee investigating the outsourcing of military and intelligence operations in the War on Terror to a nefarious organization called PointCorp. Affleck is far less convincing than Crowe, who pretty much owns "rumpled and dogged" by now, and the film plays like a supersized "Law and Order" episode, with uneven performances and lots of jiggly handheld camera in the newsroom. Among its brief pleasures are David Harbour as Cal's PointCorp informant and Jason Bateman as a drug-addled PR man, in a surprising performance that considerably enlivens the final act.

Even if you haven't seen the miniseries you'll see most of what's coming way before these ace reporters do. But then, as Cameron says, "The real story is the sinking of this bloody newspaper." signals its serious intentions by replacing Miley's TV grandma Vicki Lawrence with character actor Margo Martindale, Miley relearns how to ride a horse with the help of a cute stable boy (Lucas Till) while her dad finds romance with the foreman (Melora Hardin, again). It looks like Miley is ready to give up the Hannah act for good, but a greedy developer (Barry Bostwick) is determined to deface Miley's sweet little hometown with a shopping mall, and the only thing that can raise enough money to stop him is a Hannah Montana concert, even though Grandma has Rascal Flatts playing on her porch.
