Will increased corn production requirements for fuel ethanol move Florida to Nebraska?
Aug 11, 2007 by Mark in Time | Posted in Alternative Fuel Vehicles
Federal subsidizes to corn farmers and distillers for ethanol fuel production is driving up the price of every dairy and beef product causing the poorest of us to spend more on basic foods while increasing everyone's taxes.
But, another future problem being created is the loss of usable farm land. I live in Florida and work with the phosphate industry (among others), especially the phosphate strip mines. The demand for phosphate fertilizer it thru the roof right now because of corn. Corn depletes the soil more than any other food crop so requires the most fertilizer. At the current rate of phosphate usage for corn fields, phosphate deposits in Florida will be totally depleted in 30 years. At that time not only won't we be able to make ethanol for fuel but food production will drop to levels that will cause world-wide famine!

FLORIDIANS FOR FUSION ENERGY NOW!
Bob - if you are talking switchgrass, it actually has a negative energy balance requiring more energy to produce than can be recovered.

Stormy - I read about a similar air motor in Popular Maechanics in the 60's. Turns out adiabatic compression and expansion of air is a very inefficient energy storage mechanism. Losses from heat and friction make it impractical.
The way for ethanol to become a really cost effective fuel is to stop making it from corn and start making it from low value plants like saw grass, which grow with little water and fertilizer.

Did you know that the Republican party were the ones that fought to free the slaves?
Nov 20, 2008 by Tucking Fypos | Posted in Elections
Blame yourselves for having a black president.
Or maybe grow up, and see where what your party is supposed to stand for.
"The Republican Party was created in 1854 in opposition to the Kansas-Nebraska Act that would have allowed the expansion of slavery into Kansas. Besides opposition to slavery, the new party put forward a progressive vision of modernizing the United States — emphasizing higher education, banking, railroads, industry and cities, while promising free homesteads to farmers."
-Wikipedia
Sure did. That was back when they were the liberal party. Bet you didn't know that part did ya pal? Or did you just conveniently overlook that part, like today's reps always do when it comes to that.

JESI and others here is a thought about illegal immigration and i would like your thoughts?
Oct 15, 2006 by josh o | Posted in Immigration
I pointed out Jesi because i always see her answers and there very well thought out and i think she is a smart individual so i just wanted her thoughts as well ok here goes.
It is in my belief (not ness. fact nor fiction) That big buisness is a big part to blame for illegal immigration
In fact can big buisness hire americans at good wages and still make a positive profit?
Yes indeed they can look for instense at Kellogs cereal here in omaha nebraska they pay 20$ an hour and all the overtime you want. They still make huge profits. Now some might argue that who do you think harvests the wheat and all that. Again my argument is can we again hire people who are american and still make profit the answer is yes people we dont need maria to clean the toilet or jose to construct our streets to keep cost down. Some say the cost of living would go up. I agree because big buisness wants to make big money and therefor is a greedy industry. However couldnt there be a way of capping
big buisness or raising the min wage? One step to the problem? We did these jobs before and we can do them again.
It is the goverment who has taken away your free rights as americans to pursue a job that you perfer. If a person wanted to work middle of the road job shouldnt he be allowed to? It is his free right to get out of high school and then pursue a job rather then go to the school right?
IS middle class america no more or becoming no more?
Yes, I have heard this one before. It would be a major help, but we also need to eliminate the other incentives: education, hospitals, food stamps, etc. Also we need to crack down on crime because a lot of them are criminals (outside the obvious offenses). They join gangs, become rapists and murderers, and of course don't pay taxes. However, when we convict them, we need to deport them to Mexican jails.
