I teach a young man who wants to become a welder in the petrochemical industry in the Texas Panhandle. What kind of welding should he be especially attentitive to while in welding school? Once he's finished welding school, how should he go about finding work out that way? What are the best towns in the Texas Panhandle for him to search for this kind of work? How much money does a welder working in an oil refinery, or on the rigs usually earn per year?
Pipe welding is the best paid skill in the petrochemical industry. It can be very competitive and he needs to be prepared to go where the work is until he has a great deal of experience.
I don't know the current wage scale but I would think a good welder could make $50,000 or more if he works hard.
