Bank of America Will Raise Fee on Credit-Card Balance Transfers
15.04.09
By David Mildenberg
April 15 (Bloomberg) -- Bank of America Corp., the lender
that canceled an increase in overdraft charges amid stepped-up
scrutiny of banking practices, will boost fees on transfers of
credit-card balances from competing banks.
The fees will rise to 4 percent of the sums transferred
from 3 percent on June 1, according to a notice mailed to
customers. The change reflects increasing costs for the
Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank, spokeswoman Betty Reiss
said in an interview.
Credit-card lenders have boosted fees and interest rates as
U.S. unemployment rose to 8.5 percent in March, the highest
since 1983. Defaults on credit cards historically rise and fall
with the jobless rate, and Bank of America is the third-biggest
issuer in the U.S. with $182 billion in card loans as of Dec.
31, according to data from American Express Co. The bank wrote
off $11.4 billion of uncollectible card balances last year.
“They have stuck their neck out in this market by going to
a 4 percent fee,” said Linda Sherry, director of national
priorities at Consumer Action, a San Francisco nonprofit group
that tracks credit cards. “Companies are experiencing a great
number of defaults and they feel they have to make it up.”
I am new to the Mortgage industry, what are some ways to create new business?

I can do loans in seven states, and I can even get someone a house in bankruptcy (chapter 13). 500 scores aren't usually a problem. I can do jumbo loans up to 3 million dollars. I can even do no documentation loans. My coverage areas are:
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
Any suggestions. I have teamed up with a brokerage firm as well, and just looking for fresh ideas.
Get out there in front of realtors, home improvement companies, insurance agents, etc... and earn referrals from them. Go to trade shows, local chamber of commerce meetings and such as well.
