NJ job market falls again - Philadelphia Inquirer
15.04.09
Employment in New Jersey dropped in March for the 14th straight month as employers cut 17,200 jobs, the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported today.
The loss boosted the state's jobless rate to 8.3 percent of the workforce from 8.2 percent in February. In March last year, New Jersey's unemployment rate was 4.8 percent.
Eight of the 10 job categories the department uses showed declines last month, with the largest losses in the leisure/hospitality sector (down 5,900 jobs), professional/business services (down 4,600), manufacturing (down 3,700) and trade/transportation/utilities (down 1,800).
The cutback in leisure/hospitality jobs came largely from restaurants and hotels, which felt the effect of reduced consumer spending during the nationwide recession that began in December 2007.
"Casino hotels in Atlantic City have been especially hard-hit by the economic slowdown, leading to layoffs and other staff reductions," the department said.

How to start a NEW JERSEY small business?
Aug 15, 2007 by K. G | Posted in Small Business
I want to start a small, LLC. I am just starting a small business. It will probably start at about $1,000.00 a month gross and will probably grow to anywhere from 4 to 10 thousand a month. What are the steps I need to take in N.J. to start, register, finance, protect, etc..............
I am an idiot, so I need step by step assistance.
If you've never been in business before, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I'd call the local office New Jersey of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.
The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a small LLC and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll go after them.
