Obama pledges entitlement reform, recovery fight 'on all fronts'

Here's our liveblog of highlights from President Obama's economic speech at Georgetown University, which is now ended.

Update at 12:30 p.m. ET: Obama says there is fundamental weakness in the political system as well as the economic system. "There's been a tendency to score political points instead of rolling up sleeves to solve real problems. There is also an impatience that characterizes this town -- an attention span that has only grown shorter with the twenty-four hour news cycle, and insists on instant gratification in the form of immediate results or higher poll numbers," he says.

He says people respond to "the tempest of the moment" instead of confronting challenges in a sustained and focused way. He adds: "This can't be one of those times. The challenges are too great. The stakes are too high."

Obama says he knows how hard it is for lawmakers from both parties to grapple with so many problems at once -- "more than most Congresses and most presidents have to deal with in a lifetime. But we have been called to govern in extraordinary times. And that requires an extraordinary sense of responsibility."

Where are the Asian markets in the Washington DC area?

I just moved to DC, and really want to buy some Asian spicies and food, anybody know where are the Asian markets in the DC? I checked Chinatown, but they only have restaurants there.
Thank you!!

The big marketplace in Chinatown closed a while back but there is a small gift/novelties shop on 7th Street just north of H Street that still carries some pre-packaged items (they carry medicinal herbs as well). Sorry that I cannot recall the name.

Your best bet at locating markets are in the Virginia and Maryland suburbs. We shop at Thai Market (902 Thayer Avenue, Silver Spring) and the Indian markets along University Boulevard in Langley Park, Maryland.

Where are the best places (restaurants, markets..) to eat fresh lobster in Oregon and Washington?

Thank you.
Thank you. We are not from the US and we didn't know that you can get fresh lobster just at the East Coast... So where are the best places to eat Dungeness crabs?

Lobster is not found in the Pacific waters around Oregon and Washington, therefore you will NOT find fresh lobster here. Unless it's live Maine lobsters in tanks imported from the East coast. You WILL find fresh Dungeness crab however. The very best crab in the whole world. Sweet and juicy, and fresh off the crab boats. Go to Waldport or any other town that has a pier for fishing boats. Buy at least two or three crabs and be in HEAVEN. Or go to any of the fantasitic seafood restaurants on the Oregon and Washington coast and have a nice lunch or dinner of fresh oyster stew, fried clams. shrimp or crabs. Forget lobster in the Pacific NW.

Go to any seafood restaurant in Oregon or Washington, preferably on the coast and you'll get superb Dungeness crab. You can get a Crab Louie (a huge salad with everything but the kitchen sink in it and lots of cold crabmeat) Steamed crab served with drawn butter hot or cold, crabcakes, and many other dishes with crab. It's the best crab in the world and you won't miss lobster at all. Also, you should try the wonderful oysters from the bay. Either on the half shell, in stew or fried crisp. Absolutely divine!!!

One restaurant I'd recommend is Mo's. Mo's has many locations on the Oregon coast.

How is the Eastern Market in Washington DC during the week?

We are taking a family trip to Washington DC next week but we will only be there from Monday to Friday. I know the Eastern Market is pretty packed on the weekends and sometimes has live music and entertainment, but what's it like during the weekdays? Do you recommend it as a place to visit? Also, if you have any other tips on what to check out while in DC please let me know. Thanks =)
Oh haha I wasn't worried about the crowds, I was just wondering if there was enough going on there during weekdays to make it a good place to visit. Thanks so much for your tips lilreadhead. :) The Spy Museum is definitely on our to do list.

The market itself is open Tuesday to Sunday - but will just be a market during the weeks. The open air farmers market and the arts and crafts festival as well as the live music and entertainment won't be there on weekdays. Unless you are shopping, I am not sure it is a tourist destination on weekdays. You might go there if you have an all day train pass, just to see the building, which is historic, but closed off due to a fire, and to get some picnic-type food for a lunch on the mall.

As far as other tips, I have hundreds. Can you give us a better idea of your interests? Or look at my blog page below.
