PORTLAND, Maine -- The state's economy is reveling over the attraction that has become of nearly three dozen microbreweries across Maine.

The state's microbrew industry is seen as an attraction of sorts, which the state is very happy to tap into.

Portland-based Shipyard Brewing Co. hails as the state's largest microbrewery, producing English-style ales since 1992, according to its Web site. Alone, Shipyard Brewing employs more than 400 people statewide. More than 30 others employ many hundreds more, News 8's Steve Minich reported.

"When you buy a local beer, a good chunk of that money stays in Maine," said Fred Forsley, Shipyard Brewing's founder and co-owner.

Even in this world of and brand names and big breweries, many Mainers still prefer local beers, just one reason why Maine's beer makers believe the microbrew industry continues to thrive in the state, Minich said.

What are the best Farmers Markets in Maine?

I am thinking of moving to Vermont. Someone told me recently that Maine would be better. Any thoughts?

My family and I would like to move to Vermont. I heard that Maine would be better due to the job market in Vermont. I have warehouse and factory backgrounds and have worked at a naval shipyard. My wife prefers Vermont, but we need to go where the jobs are. Any info would be greatly appreciated between the two states.

that might have been me that suggested maine--damn i have way too much free time at work!!! but now that i know you've worked in shipyards then absolutely maine is a better choice---Bath Iron Works is a huge employer in the town of bath--about 25 minutes north of portland right on coastal maine---that area has some of the most spectacular coastline in the world--besides inland maine has everything VT has-- covered bridges, rolling mountains, ski resorts, quaint towns, PLUS the ocean and better towns/opportunities-- good luck, you'll love it--i'm sitting at work right now listening to the foghorns on the coast--you cant do that in VT!!!!

How is the job market in Maine and what part is best for gays to live ?

The job market isn't booming but there is plenty out there especially in healthcare (but that's like anywhere).

Definitely live in southern maine as far as the gay thing. Especially Portland. You'll have more opportunities to connect to other gays/lesbians. There are 3 or 4 clubs/bars last I checked and there's a pride festival every year. You're gonna run into some prejudice but it's overall a pretty welcoming town.
