Creston Baby Receives College Savings Iowa BABY 529 Giveaway Award - ReadMedia (press release)
15.04.09
DES MOINES, IA (04/15/2009; 1011)(readMedia)-- State Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald awarded a $1,000 College Savings Iowa account to a Creston baby in a special ceremony held at Greater Regional Medical Center today, courtesy of the College Savings Iowa BABY 529 Giveaway. Baby Ayden is the ninth recipient of the monthly award. Ayden's parents, Misty and Christopher Claybaker, received information about the giveaway program before leaving hospital after their son's birth.
"Little Ayden has quite a bit of growing to do before going off to college, and the money in this account will grow right along-side him," stated Fitzgerald, plan administrator. "Even in this economy some things are certain: children still grow up fast and a college education isn't getting any cheaper. I encourage families to stay focused on their long-term goals and start saving for college as soon as possible."
The College Savings Iowa BABY 529 Giveaway awards one college savings account each month to a randomly selected baby. All babies born in participating Iowa hospitals are eligible to win if they are registered for the monthly drawing. Sixty-three hospitals currently participate in the program.

How Viticulturists Protect an Investment with Bunny Boxes
During this time of Easter, when bunnies are an iconic image of successful regeneration, I thought this would be a great time to write about bunny boxes.
It sounds so simply, and in many ways it is. They’re much more cost effective than the plastic tubes that are also used for the same function, as well not leaving nearly the same carbon footprint behind.
As we travel through wine country, bunny boxes are a part of the landscape. Most people see them as milk cartons around the base of a vine, in a newly planted vineyard. the images in this blog posting were just taken at Winterhawk Winery in Suisun Valley.
The real reason these cartons are there is to protect the new shoots of an emerging grape vine in a newly planted vineyard; or, to protect a new vine in an established vineyard, that’s replacing a diseased one.
I just Google Searched “Bunny Boxes.” Forget it… Even with “viticulture” in the search, there’s not a thing on Bunny Boxes. I pulled out my The University Wine Course (from my enology class), and Grape Pest Management (from my viticulture, where I thought it would certainly be)… Nada…
It’s just something that’s done and not discussed, unless you’re on a filed trip with a vineyard worker, or driving around wine country and seeing all these containers in what’s going to be a vineyard. Once the new shoots emerge, become trained on a trellis system, and then go away as having done their job, you’ll now know what’s happening on that plot of land.
With the cost of a grape vine being about $8.00 from a California nursery, if you’ve purchased 1000 vines to begin a small vineyard, that can be decimated in no time with vineyard pests. Your initial investment of $8,000 for your grape vines is gone.

What do we need to consider before buying a mobile home?
Jul 01, 2007 by Ashley | Posted in Other - Home & Garden
We are farmers and own a great deal of land but are not ready to build a house. (At this time we cannot afford to build something we will be happy living in for the rest of our lives, but we are tired of our rental in town and just want to be out on our land.) We are planning on purchasing a new (or just a couple years old) mobile home and living in it for about ten years. (Please do not lecture on what a bad investment a mobile home is - we are well aware of it.)
We are in Iowa and we know we are probably looking at problems with frozen pipes and rodents. Does anyone have any suggestions about dealing with these issues or any others we may not have thought of yet?
We were also wondering how energy efficient new (or newer) mobile homes are.
Also, storms & tornados will not be a problem - we have a shelter already.
When you have your mobile set up, dig down about 6 inches around the base, make a frame out of 2x2's and fit it with foam insulation then skirt over this. back fill a few inches of dirt around the house. You have to consider the well (water) also , have a insulated well house with a small heater fan, we had one of these and our well never froze up. Do not surround your home with bales of straw, you will be infested with mice if you do. If you are in a very cold area , in the winter ( at night) open the cabinet doors that are under your sinks, this will prevent the pipes from freezing . Also line your pipes under your mobile with heat tape. Most manufactures tell you that the blanket insulation underneath is enough to keep your pipes from freezing but it isn't. We also lived temporarily in a mobile while waiting to build our new home. You will not like it much but it is a good short term choice.

Will Norman Hsu Be Asking For A Refund On His Illegal Hillary Contributions After Last Night's Loss In Iowa?
Jan 05, 2008 by Barack Hussein Clinton | Posted in Politics
Hsu is a savy businessman and he is getting no return on his investment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Hsu
Hillary was last reported to seek to "repurpose" the contribution under a different checking account untraceable to Hsu.
Add in Chung, and Trie, and you're looking at MILLIONS in illegal contributions from the Chinese gov't. to the Clintons.
ANOTHER Manchurian candidate!

Hi gang!Looking for an investment that curbs Meth addiction,Cures Avian Flu & Refines Corn/Sugar Into Ethanol?
May 17, 2006 by raidehz | Posted in Investing
Hopefully in a generic tablet form.
Anybody know of a good company that focuses on these three catergories?
Also, if the company is working on global warming, that would be a bonus as well.
Thank you.
Raidehz
ps; I am really taking a thumping in the indices... I was looking at ***GPRE*** today and that's RAIDEHZ #1 SHORT-PICK OF 2006!
3 employees
HQ's in Vegas
0% institutional or mutual fund interest
Hyped up on a future ethanol refinery build out in Iowa.
*YIKES* I wouldn't touch Green Plains with a 10-foot pole!
of course it could still move up more on the hype and bubbling over of all these ethanol plays.
I should buy a little piece of property and send it in on the OTC as a future site of an Enthanol or Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) plant/refinery.
HERE'S MY PORTFOLIO!!!

"You Gotta Take The Good With The Bad, Baby!"
That's my Mantra!
My Motto
Can't help you much with the Bird Flu or Meth but I would think the big companies (Merck, Johnson and Johnson, etc) all have something in the works.
These are companies currently producing or about to ethanol...
