Carlyle’s Pension Investment Said to Spark Probe
15.04.09
By Erik Larson
April 14 (Bloomberg) -- Carlyle Group is being investigated
by New York prosecutors and the U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission over whether it illegally paid intermediaries to
secure $1.3 billion in investments from the state’s pension
fund, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo and SEC lawyers are
investigating Carlyle, hedge funds and other private-equity
firms that did business with New York’s employee pension fund,
according to the person, who declined to be identified because
the probe isn’t public.
“Carlyle has fully cooperated with the New York attorney
general’s investigation,” Christopher Ullman , a spokesman for
Washington-based Carlyle, the world’s second-largest private-
equity firm, said today in an interview. “We understand this is
an industrywide investigation and that we are not the focus.”
The investigation is related to civil lawsuits and criminal
charges filed last month by Cuomo and the SEC against former New
York Deputy Comptroller David Loglisci and Hank Morris , a
political adviser. After a two-year investigation, the
governments accused the men of soliciting millions of dollars in
kickbacks from firms managing the state’s retirement fund .

Is it a good time to buy land in a rural town in connecticut for investment?
May 28, 2006 by Bullet | Posted in Renting & Real Estate
Land tends to be a terrible investment. The reason is that your only return of investment is through market appreciation. And, the only way to acquire your appreciation is through the sale of the property. In the meantime, you have property taxes to pay.
If you are buying the land for development, make sure you can build or subdivide the land for building before you purchase. Typically, a seller should provide any engineering or survey work that would indicate its suitability for development.

Is this a good Connecticut based investment firm?
Jul 29, 2007 by Paul W | Posted in Investing
I would like to invest some money into a private investment firm. My research has shown that my best bet is BGW Solutions located in Hartford Connecticut. Has anyone ever done business with BGW Solutions or have any knowledge about their background? They seem like a sound investment firm but I would like some feedback as to if anyone else has or thinks BGW Solutions is a good investment firm. Their website is BgwSolutions.com
Just be aware of the fees and charges associated with what you are doing and read the fine print.
And take all advice for what it is... advice
