I'm starting a new Real Estate/Investment Company in Alabama. I need a business name. Any Suggestions?
Apr 24, 2008 by Happy Heart | Posted in Renting & Real Estate
My husband and I are starting an Investment business in a small town. We would really like a name for the business but haven't been able to narrow down our names to any particular 3. We will be purchasing old homes to fix up and resale/ new homes to help young buyers get started and property that's been let go (cosmetically speaking). We plan to do some rental type investments and also some multi plex apts. We want a catchy professional looking name. This will be the name that will help us make it in our business or not be taken seriously. We'd like a logo to go with it too. Any suggestions will be appreciated in our search for a better life. Thanks
I would go with what makes Alabama, Alabama. Look at the state symbols. ( I live in a concrete city, new york) Im thinking. Tarpon Financial ( if you like fishing, thats the state fish) Or Monarch Financial (as in the butterfly Alabama is known for never forget that name ) Black Bear Financial ( noone forgets the strong bear that everyone in the state grew up with) Oakleaf Financial ( one of the state flowers ) Blackberry Financial ( also has the obvious Blackberry cell phone connection with all the well to do and business people as well as the state berry)

Is a Feminist bookstore a good investment?
Mar 16, 2007 by MaryCheneysAccessory | Posted in Gender & Women's Studies
I have a business opportunity to start a national chain of Feminist bookstores called "Sappho's Closet." Along with the normal outlets of San Francisco and Boston, we are thinking of opening stores in Huntsville, Alabama; Casper, Wyoming; Peoria, Illinois; and Altoona, Pennsylvania. I am not sure about this, but I think it is time to open the eyes of fellow Americans. What do you think?
Deidre...how cynical of you.
alot of women read it's an excape for some others it may be what's lacking in life of it may be the fantasy
there are alot of good thingsthat could become of your store and there are lot of different things you could do
hold a book meeting once or twice (like a book club) so readers can share what their books were like and maybe it would lead to more puchases after the meeting
there is alot of ideas for this type of investment i would say go for it

For Alabama taxes, should Form 1040 be used if there was a distribution from an IRA (not yet 65)?
Mar 19, 2009 by KAH | Posted in United States
I am working on my taxes. I live in Alabama. I switched jobs in 2008. When I quit my old job, the investment company sent me a check for the distribution of my IRA. It was around $60 (I am 24). Do I need to report this on the Alabama forms? And, if yes, which form and where? Also, if you know the answer, would I just use a Form 1040A for federal and report it on line 11B?
You should have received a 1099R for the distribution. I'm guessing that you did not roll it over to an IRA so you will need to report it. Line 11B is correct unless you fit one of the exemptions.
See link for IRS instructions.
Alabama does not have an exemption for early distribution of 401(k) funds. See 2nd link for complete list of exemptions.
