GRENN BAY - Last month, when Northeast Wisconsin was getting its first taste of spring, a dozen staff members at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, headed west, to a conference Reno, Nevada, at a luxury resort, hotel and casino. That was where the League for Innovation in the Community College held its annual conference.

According to the group's website, it is "...the only major international organization specifically committed to improving community colleges through innovation, experimentation, and institutional transformation."

"It's all about innovations," said Mark Weber, dean of the Trades and Technical program at NWTC. He is one of the 12 people NWTC sent to the conference. If that sounds like a lot, consider this: last year, the conference was held in Denver, NWTC sent just two people. Library manager Kim LaPlante is another person who made the trip to Reno. Both LaPlante and Weber said the conference was a place to learn some new and innovative ways to educate people, and a place to share what works at NWTC.
