Is Funding Long-Term Studies a 'Stimulus'? Transportation ...

STUART VARNEY, GUEST HOST: Now, moving on, President Obama touting his stimulus plan today. He says the waste is being watched. But is a report out of Ohio putting that statement to the test. $57 million in stimulus cash is slated to be spent on studies, not projects, that won't create jobs for years. Does that count as stimulus?
Transportation Secretary Raymond LaHood is overseeing many of these projects, and he joins me now.
Mr. Secretary, thanks very much for being with us.

RAY LAHOOD, U.S. SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION: Thank you, Stuart.
VARNEY: ... I'm not trying to pick on nits here, but there is $57 million in Ohio that's going to studies of something. That's not exactly fixing infrastructure that's crumbling and doing it now, boots on the ground, job creation right now, is it?
LAHOOD: Well, look it, we were privileged to be with the president today at DOT, where we announced over 2,000 projects are funded, millions of dollars — billions of dollars out the door. There will be hundreds of thousands of people working this summer, building the infrastructure, rebuilding the infrastructure of America.
What infrastructure projects would you like improved w/ the stimulus package?

Assuming the bill is revised and doesn't include as much for condoms as new roads, what projects would you like to see done in your state or city?
In Kentucky I'd like
* every interstate to have cable median barriers
* several Ohio River bridges in Louisville & near Cincinnati replaced with more modern (and prettier) bridges
* more rail trails
How about you?

HB 366 Ohio Bill Will Remove State BSL!
Voice Your Support Now!
Update: The Ohio state legislative committee considering this bill has heard testimony from supporters and opponents of H.B. 366. The bill is likely to die in committee because committee members have not heard from enough supporters!
The bill proposes to repeal the law that defines pit bulls as vicious dogs. The bill, H.B. 366, will mean pit bull type dogs will no longer be automatically considered vicious under state law. The opponents of this bill are well organized. The dogs need you.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Contact the members of the Ohio House Committee on Infrastructure, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs. Tell them that you support this fair legislation. For more on the bill and talking points, read the original report below. Don't wait. Do it now.
Ha ha, I am from Columbus.
I'm happy one of my contacts, Courtney starred this question, otherwise I may have not seen this.
I'm in the Lorain area of Ohio. I know that all pit bulls that enter the Lorain County Dog Kennel are deemed as unadoptable and euthanized/gassed after quarantine by law - but I don't think there are any specifics in owning pit bulls other than the $100,000+ liability insurance, last I checked anyways. Ohio is the very worst place to have a "dangerous" breed, specifically bully breeds - it's utterly ridiculous.
But, yes, I'll let my opinion and support be known.
& that reminds me. I had to take one of my dogs to the vet today and saw an absolutely gorgeous chocolate colored pit bull. His tail was just a-waggin', super friendly boy, so excited to see so many other dogs and people. Ah, I wanted to steal that dog.
Great username/screenanme by the way. I absolutely hate Petland. The place is disgusting, the dogs are sick, the cats are disease ridden and their reptiles lay dead in the cages. I brought my Canon camera in Petland to take photos for my underconstruction website - they watched me like a hawk and the manager (?) asked me to leave the store LOL.

When do Democrats refuse this bipartisan compromise on a timeline for withdrawal in Iraq?
Sep 30, 2007 by Forthepeople | Posted in Politics
"The proposal, by Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, would require that Bush change the mission of U.S. troops from combat to primarily support roles, such as training Iraqi security forces and protecting U.S. infrastructure in Iraq. His legislation would set a goal of completing such a mission transition within 15 months."
It might be the best compromise they can get. If the Democrats don't take it, then there's probably no chance of a compromise for a long time. Have they decided to go with Hillary's plan to stay in the war indefinitely?
Everyone that is aware of the true situation in Iraq is also painfully aware that the Bush administration has done its usual muck-up of the situation. What should have been a relative quick in and out operation, has turned into a full-blown quagmire reminiscent of another Republican operation called Korea. What Hillary and most of the rest are suggesting is to setup a situation similar to Korea until the region settles down and the fledgeling Iraq government can institute a proper government that works.
We've been in Korea, going on fifty years. As a military power there, we keep a low profile and generally let the region handle their own problems. It is probably the best solution we can get without lighting off the region entirely.
